When I first got divorced and had the freedom to shape my life, I was completely lost. I realized I had been unconsciously influenced by social media, advertising, and family expectations about what I should like.
During my coaching training, I participated in a simple but powerful values exercise that helped me gain clarity, and I hope it does the same for you.
Values are the qualities that truly matter to you—not moral values, but the things that make you feel alive and fulfilled.
Start by looking at a list of values; you can easily find many online. Here’s a handy one: Values List.
Go through the list and write down the values that resonate with you. Remember, this isn’t about right or wrong. Choose values that excite you, make you feel rewarded, or bring you happiness.
Once you’ve created a preliminary list, narrow it down to your top 3-5 values.
For me, those are Authenticity, Collaboration, Open-mindedness, and Nature. Understanding these values has helped me intentionally incorporate them into my life, making it feel much more meaningful.
